Education in Forex

Finding the best resources in order to learn forex trading is not as simple and straightforward as many of us would think, but it is still possible to get a good education if you know how to filter the information you’re bombarded with every day. Even if the teacher may not be perfect himself (and who is perfect among us, after all), just by identifying where he is wrong you may already be gaining valuable lessons which will stay with you for the rest of your career.

Education is the key to all that is good in this era. And we assume that everyone is aware of that by now. But by education, we do not just speak of learning, since that is aplenty in the markets, and doesn’t always lead to success by itself alone. Instead, education that we value most is about humility, self-control, and patience.

What sets George Soros from his peers in the market, for example, is great analytical skill, but also a great degree of skepticism when discussing anything, including his own opinions. Similarly, Warren Buffet never fails to make candid admissions of failure if market action does not justify his initial reasons for entering a trade. And there are countless examples where great minds with excellent education generated disastrous returns for their clients in the volatile atmosphere of trading. The case of Isaac Newton, and that of the two great scientists, Myron Scholes and Robert C. Merton, are well-known to many traders. The former lost a fortune in a speculative bubble, the latter pair made mistakes that almost brought down the global financial system.

There are many good resources online when it comes to learning about the mechanics of currency trading and economics, but most gurus and teachers are unwilling to tell their students what they really need to know: how to fail, how to cope with losses financially and emotionally, and how to learn from your mistakes. Countless stories, and trader’s secret lore tell us all the time that success in forex requires more than mathematical prowess and encyclopedic knowledge, yet schools that teach us how to do so are not numerous.

So our advice to you is to stick tight to any real mentor that you can find, and to treasure him until you’re sure that you’ve sucked out every single bit of knowledge and advice from his valuable experiences. Indeed, paying a decent fee for a real teacher, or purchasing the services of a reliable online forex school are prudent choices if they can prevent you from realizing future losses. But whatever you do, make sure that you devote enough time and energy to getting the education you need. If you do not, it’s unlikely that your trading career will bring you anything but a long run of misery and disappointments.
